Members of the public can start filing for open school board and municipal seats on Tuesday.
Filing will continue through Jan. 21. The election will be held April 7.
Municipal
Poplar Bluff City Council will have three seats open this year. They are currently held by Mayor Robert Smith, the Ward 5 representative, and council members at-large Steve Davis and Ron Black.
Each term is for three years.
The council serves as the legislative branch of city government, making policies and approving the city budget. Members also look at the city’s goals, major projects and infrastructure improvements.
The council usually meets twice a month on the first and third Monday, although dates can change or special sessions can be called.
Filing can be done at the city clerk’s office, 501 Vine Street, Poplar Bluff, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the last day of filing.

Schools
School board members hold their seats for three years and do not have a term limit. They are responsible for establishing policies and rules to serve as guidelines for the general management and administrative actions of the district.
They also help establish goals for the district, collaborate with district administration, monitor the district and superintendent performance, and connect with the community.
The boards typically meet once a month to discuss goals for the district and take action.
This year, Poplar Bluff R-I schools has three open seats. They’re currently held by President John Scott, board member Jerrod Murphy and board member Alana Robertson.
Those interested in the seats can file at the central office at 1110 N. Westwood Blvd. during normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. while school is in session. On Tuesday, the office will be open until 5 p.m. in order to give people more time to file. No filings will be accepted during lunch from noon until 1 p.m.
The Twin Rivers R-X district also has three open seats. They’re currently held by President Billy Watson, David Dugger and Roger Baxter.
Those interested in the seats can file at the central office at 9348 Missouri 51 in Broseley during normal business hours of 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. while school is in session.
Neelyville R-IV has three open seats, which are currently held by Dean Fisher, Paul Petty and Shane Eaker.
Those interested in running can file at the central office next to the high school at 289 Broadway Street in Neelyville. On Tuesday, the office will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. to allow people extra time to file.
Otherwise, it will be open during normal business hours of 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. while school is in session.
Three Rivers College will also be holding elections this year with three open seats on the Board of Trustees.
Two seats from sub-district one will be open for six-year terms. They are currently filled by trustee Eric Schalk and current treasurer Chris Williams. There will also be a seat open in sub-district two for four years to complete the current term.
Those interested in filing for one of the seats will be able to do so during normal business hours with Janine Heath, who will serve as election authority. The school will be closed from noon Friday. Dec. 20, through Monday, Jan. 7, for the winter break.
