There are a lot of topics that I considered when preparing for this column, but I feel that the greatest topic is heaven. Not the place itself, but the way to heaven. In John Chapter 14, and Verse 6, Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the father, but by me.”
According to the Bible, Jesus is the only way to heaven.
What exactly does that mean? It means you and I cannot gain our way to heaven by any other means than by Jesus, either by something He has, something He does or something He has done. It’s all three.
One does go to heaven by what Jesus has, forgiveness. Colossians 1:14 says “In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.”
See, we are all sinners. The Bible says in Romans, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God; There is no church, pastor, priest or good work on our part that can forgive our sins.” Titus 3:5 “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost.”
One does go to heaven by what Jesus does, washes sin away by His blood. When we sin, we transgress against God’s perfect standard. Sin must be dealt with in the individual’s life before they can go to heaven.
And I don’t know about you, dear reader, but my desire is to go to heaven when I die. In order for that to happen, my sin must be forgiven and washed away. According to the Bible, that is only possible through the blood of Christ.
Finally, one goes to heaven by what Jesus has done. Jesus has died on a cross for YOU. While John the Baptist was baptizing in the Jordan, he saw Jesus and declared “Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world.” That includes you.
When Jesus died on the cross, he was taking the punishment for our sins. He paid the penalty and he has the forgiveness through his blood for all sin.
My friend, there will come a day when you leave this world. Life will leave your body and you will go out into eternity. Will you go to heaven or hell? Those are the only two choices, according to the bible.
John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” The Bible says that salvation is through faith in Christ Believing that Jesus died and rose again, died for you, for your sins so that you won’t have to go to hell when you die.
Let me leave you with this verse, Romans 10:9-10 “That is thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Jesus Christ has finished the work of salvation for us. All you must do to be saved is what the Bible says.
