Leona Hensley Merriman

FISK — Leona Hensley Merriman, age 86, of Fisk died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019 at Southeast Health Center of Stoddard Co. in Dexter.

Mrs. Hensley was born June 17, 1933 in Morehouse, Mo., daughter of the late William and Rhoda Hughes. She was a member of the former Church of God in Fisk. Before her health failed she enjoyed walking with her friend Irma Jennings.

On April 30, 1949 she married Howard Hensley. He preceded her in death on January 9, 1993. In January, 2006, she married Jesse Merriman. He survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Hassel Hensley (Paula) of Poplar Bluff and Basil Hensley (Connie) of Ellsinore; one daughter, Juanita Merriman (Layman) of Poplar Bluff; two stepchildren, Gene Merriman (Jackie) of Poplar Bluff and Elaine Cox of Springfield, Mo.; one brother, Joe Hughes (Lou) of Morehouse; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Edward; two sisters and one brother.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jim Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Brown Chapel Cemetery at Broseley.
