CAPE GIRARDEAU — A Poplar Bluff man was sentenced to more than nine years in federal prison Monday morning for being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition.
Shawn Del Daggett, 40, was sentenced to 110 months on the felony of being a felon in possession of ammunition by U.S. District Judge Ronnie White, according to assistant U.S. Attorney Keith Sorrell.
Upon Daggett’s release from prison, Sorrell said, he will be placed on a three-year period of supervised release.
At the time of his August plea, Daggett admitted he was a convicted felon, having been convicted of the felonies of unlawful use of a weapon by exhibiting in Butler County on March 23, 2004, and manufacturing a controlled substance in Wayne County on March 10, 2009.
The agreed-upon facts of the case say on Dec. 12, law enforcement officers were investigating a burglary and theft.
They reportedly had developed information that Daggett might have been involved in those offenses.
A group of officers drove to Daggett’s residence in the 500 block of County Road 4702.
“When the officers arrived, they observed Daggett and a female outside the residence,” the plea agreement says. “Daggett and the female fled on foot and evaded the officers.”
Later that same day, the plea agreement further says, state law enforcement officers served a search warrant at the residence.
During their search, the officers reportedly located more than 20 rounds of various types of ammunition.
Daggett’s identification, according to the plea agreement, was found in a box containing some of the ammunition.
Due to Daggett’s prior felony convictions, he was prohibited from possessing ammunition.
