The Twin Towers in Poplar Bluff will have a 50th anniversary celebration from 1:30-3 p.m. Tuesday at 506 Hazel St.

Twin Towers, a senior citizen housing facility, was completed in December 1969 and a grand opening was held in June 1970. Originally, the high rise complex had 156 apartments, but today it has 104 units.

Weather permitting the ceremony will begin in front of the building, if the weather is inclement, the event will be under the back portico. Other activities will take place in the Northside Nutrition Center located inside the building, said Tammy Harper, office manager.

Missouri Rep. Hardy Billington (R-152 District) will present flags which flew over the state capitol and Missouri Rep. Jeff Shawan (R-153) will present a house resolution. Mayor Robert Smith will present a proclamation from the city.

The Rev. Davis Stewart of the First United Methodist Church will offer the opening prayer and The Rev. Tim Ingle, family pastor at Memorial Baptist Church, will offer the benediction. John R. Stanard, chairman of the Poplar Bluff Housing Authority board, will speak.

Darrin J. Taylor, the new executive director for the housing authority, will be present. He is formerly from Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
