ELLSINORE — Leroy Carpenter, 82, died Oct. 7, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 in the McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellsinore, with a graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11 in the Henson Cemetery in Ellsinore. Rev. Scott Reynolds will be officiating.

ELLSINORE — Leroy Carpenter, son of the late William Delbert and Johnnie Joan (Panell) Carpenter was born Dec. 21, 1936 in Tulsa, Okla. and departed this life on Oct. 7, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. He had attained the age of 82 years, 9 months, and 17 days.

Leroy had resided in Ellsinore since 1968 and was formerly of Oklahoma. He attended the First Assembly of God Church in Ellsinore and proudly served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1964. Before retirement, Leroy was a welder and a mechanic. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, joking with friends and hanging out at The Log Cabin. He laughed and joked with the hospital staff and kept them on their toes till the very end. 

On June 4, 1966, he was united in marriage to Doris Jean Ferren in Grandin.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Carpenter of Ellsinore; one son, David Carpenter, and wife, Jill of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; one daughter, Cindy Johnson of Bartlett, Tenn.; one sister, Phyllis Robinett of Ellsinore; three grandchildren, Whitley Landeros and husband, Joe of Eugene, Ore.; Tanner Carpenter of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; William Johnson of Bartlett, Tenn.; one great-grandchild, Cybil Landeros of Eugene, Ore. and many friends and relatives who mourn his passing. 

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 in the McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellsinore, with a graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11 in the Henson Cemetery in Ellsinore. Rev. Scott Reynolds will be officiating.
