City Fire
City firefighters were dispatched at 7:49 p.m Wednesday, Oct. 2, in response to a fire alarm at 118 South 2nd Street in property owned by the Daily American Republic. A faulty smoke sensor in the basement of the building was found to be the cause of the alarm. The alarm was taken out of service per city firefighters until repairs can be made by the business.

City firefighters responded at 5:21 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, to a report of an unauthorized burn at the corner of Hillcrest Park and Relief streets. A large pile of grass clippings was found burning in a ditch near Hillcrest Park. A booster line and 250 gallons of water was used to extinguish the fire.

City firefighters responded at 6:31 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, to a report of an unauthorized burn at the rear of 1009 North Main Street. Firefighters used a garden hose from a neighboring residence at 911 Gardner Street to put out the fire. Approximately 10 gallons was used to extinguish the fire.

City firefighters responded at at 5:41 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, to a report by Randy Foster, of 1202 North 5th Street, of arcing behind his stove. Upon arrival, firefighters found no signs of structure fire but did find a stove and clothes dryer were connected by an extension cord. Both appliances were disconnected and the owner was advised to not use them until all circuits could be checked.
