Doniphan will have its first Fields of Faith event this year now that the high school has a completed football field where it can be held.
Fields of Faith is a national event originally started by Fellowship of Christian Athletes Executive Director of Ministry Advancement Jeff Martin in 2004. Martin’s goal with it was to inspire students to “refuel their faith and get back to the basics of reading God’s word through worhship and personal testimoneis, according to fca.org.
Doniphan students have attended Fields of Faith events at other schools, such as Poplar Bluff High School, and still plan to. However, local faith leaders brought up wanting to host a local event and the school district agreed.
“Some of our youth pastors in town are coordinating this,” High School Counselor Misti Redus said. “It was their idea and they contacted Josh Mills who is the FCA regional leader. He coordinated it and got it started. It really wasn’t the school’s idea, we can’t take credit even though we’re excited.”
Redus said the event is free and open to anyone who wishes to attend. This year’s speaker will be former Doniphan High School basketball coach Jason Andrews. There will also be worship music put on by Zack McNulty and his Christian rock band, Forester.
The event will be held at the Doniphan High School football field at 7 p.m. Wednesday with concession sales starting at 5.
