Candace Hecker is a fourth grade teacher at Poplar Bluff Middle School. She teaches English Language Arts. This is her 22nd year as a teacher.

Q. Where/what did you study in school?

A. I have my Bachelor Of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Southeast Missouri State University. I obtained my Masters Degree in Elementary Administration from William Woods College.

Q. Why did you get into teaching?

A. I went into teaching so I could make a positive difference and impact as many young lives as I possibly could.

Q. What’s your favorite part of teaching?

A. That “Ah-Hah!” moment when a student “gets it” and seeing that child blossom right before my eyes.

Q. What’s the most challenging part?

A. The most challenging part of my profession is trying to meet the needs of each one of my students.

Q. What would you tell a student who is thinking about becoming a teacher?

A. I say if you are passionate about making a difference in the life of a child, then go for it!
