City firefighters responded at 10:47 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, to a report of a fire behind Westwood Billiards, 2207 S. Westwood Blvd.
According to the report, they found a dumpster filled with cardboard that was fully involved. Firefighters used about 750 gallons of water to put out the visible flames and found the debris in the dumpster was smoldering throughout.
Firefighters reported using a winch to overturn the dumpster and another 750 gallons of water to completely extinguish the burning debris.

City firefighters responded at 7:10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, to a report of an unauthorized burn in the area of Eighth and Cedar streets.
According to the report, firefighters found a small trash fire burning behind 821 Cedar St. and used five gallons of water to put it out.

City firefighters responded at 5:17 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, to a motor-vehicle crash in front of Casey’s General Store at 1995 S. Broadway.
According to the report, firefighters assisted with traffic control and used an absorbent on spills fluids.

City firefighters responded at 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, to a report of a gas leak behind the Dollar General Store, 1371 N. Westwood Blvd.
According to the report, Spire gas company personnel already were on the scene. A broken gas meter was found, and the gas was shut off.
Firefighters checked the other buildings before clearing the scene.

City firefighters responded at 8:03 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, to a fire at the 205 W. Harper St. residence owned by Shirley Hanna.
According to the report, firefighters found a mailbox had been set on fire sometime in the prior 24 hours and had put itself out. The fire reportedly destroyed the mail inside the mailbox.
