John Edgar Forsman, age 82, of Wappapello, passed away on the afternoon of Friday August 30, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Janice Forsman, father to John Jr. and Josh Forsman and the late John Martin Forsman.
John was born on September 5, 1936 in Cedarhurst, New York, the son of late Martin and Louella Marie Forsman. At Mitchell Cannon, a community park, John met Janice at the side of a pool in May of 1957. He later asked her out on a date, which of course ended with them going “dutch”. On September 11, 1957 John and Janice married in Cathedral City, Calif.
He served in both the United States Navy as a young man then joined the Air Force involved in military electronics as a Master Sargent. John served for 24 years including time spent in the Korean War and Vietnam War.
John, also known as “Grandad” and “Sarge”, was an avid tinker and handyman; he enjoyed spending time with his family and never left his bed unmade.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Forsman of Wappapello; two children, John Forsman Jr. and his wife, Pamela of Las Vegas, Nev. and Josh Forsman of Rossville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Robyn Forsman and her fiancé, Jason Katz, and Ryan Forsman and his fiancée, Mercedes Salazar, all of Las Vegas, Chelsea Forsman and her fiancé, Andrew Napier of Tupelo, Miss. and Joshua Dylan Forsman of Rossville, Tenn.; and one sister, Margaret Cordrey of Titusville, Fla.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Louella Marie Forsman; his son, John Martin Forsman; his sister, Joan Hanna; and his daughter-in-law, Sonja Forsman.
The graveside funeral will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield on Tuesday September 3 at 1 p.m.
