City firefighters responded at 7:21 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, to a report of an unauthorized burn in the are of Second and Cedar streets.
According to the report, firefighters found the occupants at Cain Holloway’s 1021 Second St. residence were burning carpet. Firefighters told them about the city’s burn ordinance and used 10 gallons of water to put out the fire.

City firefighters responded at 6:39 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, to a report of heavy smoke in the area of Sixth and Kinzer streets.
According to the report, firefighters found grass and leaves were being burned at the 602 Kinzer St. residence, owned by Sheila Burnett. Firefighters told Burnett about the city’s burn ordinance.

City firefighters responded at 3:22 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, to a report of a carbon monoxide detector sounding at the 842 Kinzer St. residence occupied by Charles Beard.
According to the report, firefighters were told the detector had been sounding intermittently, and after its batteries were change, it went off for a few seconds then began chirping.
Firefighters put in a another set of batteries, and the detector chirped indicating the batteries were no good.
Firefighters reportedly used a mini CO detector and multirae meter to check for CO. None was found.
Given the age of the detector, firefighters recommended it be replaced.

City firefighters responded at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, to a report of a concrete spill at the intersection of Highway 53 and Highway 142.
According to the report, firefighters found a small spill and used 20 gallons of water to wash off the road.

City firefighters responded at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, to a report of heavy smoke on Bearden.
According to the report, firefighters found an unauthorized burn in the back yard of the 605 Bearden St. residence occupied by Crystal Windes.
Firefighters reportedly told Windes about the city’s burn ordinance and used 30 gallons of water to put out the fire.

County firefighters responded at 1:50 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, to an electric short at the Villa Package, 3329 S. Westwood Blvd.
According to the report, firefighters found smoke coming from the back of the building upon their arrival. The smoke reportedly was found to be originating at the electric meter base.
Firefighters contacted Ozark Border Electric Cooperative, which shut off the power to the building.
