City firefighters responded at 3:39 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, to a sounding carbon monoxide detector at the 1001 Pershing St. residence owned by Bill Wiles. According to the report, Wiles told firefighters he had replaced the battery in the CO detector, but it still was chirping...

City firefighters responded at 3:39 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, to a sounding carbon monoxide detector at the 1001 Pershing St. residence owned by Bill Wiles.

According to the report, Wiles told firefighters he had replaced the battery in the CO detector, but it still was chirping.

While firefighters were on the scene, Wiles again replaced the battery, and the detector quit chirping.

Firefighters used multigas and mini CO meters to check the home, and no CO was found.

Firefighters recommended Wiles replace the detector since it was made in 2003.

County firefighters responded at 11:06 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, to a report of a smoke in the residence at 1926 County Road 608.

According to the report, plastic on a cook stove melted, causing the smoke in the residence.
