A Poplar Bluff woman may face charges after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend Thursday night when she “figured out” he was leaving her for good.
Arrested was Annette Sue Russell. She was charged Friday with two Class B felonies of first-degree assault, two unclassified felonies of armed criminal action and the Class E felony of unlawful use of a weapon.
The 30-year-old is accused of assaulting her boyfriend, Adrain Miller, who was treated at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center for a stab wound to his chest and a cut on his arm.
Poplar Bluff Police Patrolman Molly Johns was sent at about 11:35 p.m. Thursday to Poplar Bluff Regional, where she contacted Miller, 41.
Miller, according to Johns’ report, told the officer he had been staying with Russell at her residence in the 400 block of South Sixth Street since Sunday.
“Miller stated he lives in Springfield, Mo., but has been in a relationship with Russell and comes to Poplar bluff to visit and stay with her,” Johns said. “Miller stated he and Russell have been involved in domestic violence incidents in the past; however, he has never wished to pursue charges until” this incident.
Miller, Johns said, reported he and Russell started out the week getting along, but “began arguing constantly the last few days.”
Johns said Miller further reported he made the decision he was going to leave her for good and contacted Eric Whitehorn to come pick him up without Russell knowing it.
“When Whitehorn arrived in his vehicle, Russell figured out what was going on and became aggravated,” Johns said. “Miller advised Russell stated she would kill him and came after him with two kitchen knives in hand.”
Miller and Russell reportedly were outside on the porch when she allegedly first came after him.
“When she first swung at him, she sliced the inner area of his right elbow,” Johns said. “Miller then ran to Whitehorn’s car, and Russell ran after him, still wielding two knives.
“When Miller got to Whitehorn’s car, he tried to get in, but Russell caught up to him.”
It was then that Russell allegedly stabbed Miller in the chest while he was standing next to the vehicle.
Miller, Johns said, then jumped in Whitehorn’s vehicle and was taken to the hospital.
For identification purposes, Johns said, Miller showed her a photograph of Russell from her Facebook profile.
While at the hospital, Johns said, she also spoke with Whitehorn, who provided a written statement.
Whitehorn’s account, she said, corroborated what Miller had reported.
“Russell, who Whitehorn advised as scarily calm, stated, ‘I have two. You better take him to the hospital before dies … ,’” Johns said.
At about 1:30 a.m. Friday, Johns said, she went to Russell’s residence, where she contacted the woman’s mother.
The woman, she said, denied her daughter was inside, but allowed officers inside to check for her.
“While speaking with her inside the living room area, I heard a rustling noise toward the backside of the house,” said Johns, who indicated she was told it “just the children.”
As Johns was walking toward the back of the house, she said, a woman, who she recognized from the photo, walked into the kitchen area.
The woman, Johns said, confirmed she was Russell.
When Russell was handcuffed, Johns said, she “did not ask what she was being arrested for; she simply told her family goodbye …”
After being told of her rights, Johns said, Russell indicated she did not wish to make a statement.
Russell subsequently was booked at the Butler County jail. Her bond is set at $50,000 cash or surety.
