Poplar Bluff High School is competing against other schools in the Missouri, Illinois and Arkansas in the Dr. Pepper Pigskin Points Contest, with the winner taking home the grand prize of $10,000.

PBHS Beta Club has taken the reins on leading the contest for the school. Beta Club Sponsors Stephanie Kuper and Sara Holloway are asking for help from the Poplar Bluff community to help the school win one of the big prizes in the contest.

“The contest kicked off in August and we will be collecting Dr. Pepper bottle caps until Dec. 14,” Kuper said.

The concept is easy. All participants have to do is keep a lookout for Dr. Pepper plastic bottles that have a maroos Pigskin Points cap. When people are finished with the drinks, collect the bottle cap and turn it in at one of the four 50-gallon barrels at Poplar Bluff High School. The barrels are located in the high school cafeteria, near the stage, in the main office, and two barrels are located at the PBHS Football field.

“It is really easy and we could be big winners if we are one of the top three schools in our class or division,” Kuper said. “The first place winner will receive $10,000. Second place will receive $5,000 and third place wins $2,500.”

All participating schools will be entered into a random drawing and three schools in each division will win $500. “Last year we won one of the $500 door prizes, which helped fund our club’s trip to state convention in Springfield, Missouri,” she said.

The Pigskin Points caps are available in 20-ounce, 16-ounce, 1-liter and 2-liter bottles. The top of each Pigskin Points cap has a football helmet imprinted on it. Specific brands of Dr. Pepper products that have the bottle caps are Dr. Pepper, Diet Dr. Pepper, Cherry Dr. Pepper, Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper, 7UP, Diet 7UP, Squirt, Crisp & Clear water, and Orange/Grape/Strawberry Crush.
