For competitive anglers, there are a couple of fishing tournaments coming up this weekend, both on Saturday, so you can pick your flavor.

The first is the Current River Smallmouth Association’s event, based out of the Watercress ramp Van Buren.

The launch time has been set for 7 a.m. and fishing will continue through 5 p.m.

You can sign up to fish the event before it starts that morning, or you can call Paul Henderson at 573-686-5476 before then.

The other tournament is one hosted by the Wappapello Bass Circuit.

Fishing will begin at 6:30 a.m. from the Redman Creek ramp and will continue through 2 p.m.

As always, the circuit will host a pre-event meeting to assign boat numbers at 6 p.m. friday at the Wappapello VFW off Highway D.

This will be the Wappapello Bass Circuit’s final event of the regular season before it hosts its Classic in September.

The tournament director is Justun Buchanan and he can get you signed up if you call him at 573-429-6312.

Big “O” is Sept. 8

The Big “O” Bass Masters tournament, one of the largest and oldest on Wappapello Lake, has been scheduled for Sept. 8.

You can register for the event by picking up a form at Chaonia Landing, or you can call Rick Robertson at 573-429-7910.

Regulation Changes?

The Missouri Conservation Commission is meeting Thursday and Friday this week and will consider several changes to policies and regulations.

On the table will be potential permit price increases for nonresidents and possible changes to acreage requirements for landowner permits.

Also, a price increase for trout permits will be considered, as will rules on animal carcass transportation and disposal, with an emphasis on avoiding the spread of CWD.
