Gene Hart, 79, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., joined the love of his life in heaven on August 19, 2019 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Gene was born on May 26, 1940 to Oscar and Grethel (King) Hart in Harviell. He married Sally (England) on June 24, 1961 in Poplar Bluff. She preceded him in death on Dec. 30, 2011.
Gene was a lifelong Butler County resident. He was a retired ordained Missionary Baptist minister and owner of Hart’s Catfish for many years, served in the United States Army from 1963-1965 during the Vietnam era and was a former Western District County Commissioner in Butler County. Mr. Hart enjoyed being with his family, hunting, fishing and he loved all fur babies.
Gene is survived by daughters, Tina Schiller, Michele “Shelly” Goff and husband Bob, Rachel Smith and husband, Brian; son, Doug Fleigle and wife, Beth; grandchildren, Danielle Sullivan, Ashley Hill, Jesse Daughhetee, Joshua Kidd, Avery Schiller, Catie Smith, Tarah Moore, Laura Goff, Trevor Goff; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, James Hart and wife, Martha, Frank Hart; sisters, Mae Osment, Kay Bridges and husband, Roger; special family friend, Bonnie Medley; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; wife; Sally Hart; sister, Inez Reynolds; brothers-in-law, Don Osment and Ed Reynolds.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23 in the funeral home chapel with Gary Vester officiating. Burial will be in Kinsey Cemetery.
