The featured artist at Margaret Harwell Art Museum in August will be the late Ted Herlofson, who retired to the Ozarks after many years working in commercial and fine art.
An opening reception will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3 at the museum.
Herlofson was a very successful painter who spent his career on the West Coast, before moving with his wife to Birch Tree, Missouri, in 1996.
“He spent the remainder of his life painting the world around him, the beautiful Ozarks. He left behind dozens of paintings that capture the beauty and the way of life of this region,” said museum Director Steve Whitworth.
In retirement, Herlofson remained busy with remodeling and landscaping, getting to know the people and the special places of the Ozark and using them as subjects in his paintings, according to family at the time of his death.
Herlofson was born in rural Minnesota in 1935. He died in 2014.
“Ted’s family would love for him to be remembered by sharing his works with patrons who appreciate their beauty,” said Whitworth, who encouraged collectors to attend this exhibit.
Friends of the Margaret Harwell Art Museum will provide wine and refreshments during the reception.
The work will be on display through Aug. 25.
Financial assistance for this showing has been provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency. MHAM is located at 421 N. Main St. and is physically impaired accessible. It is open from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
