City firefighters responded at 7:14 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, to a report of an unauthorized fire at 937 Cherry Street and 940 Cedar Street. Upon arriving, firefighters found a small unattended fire in the ditch and used about five gallons of water to extinguish the fire before cleaning up the scene.

City firefighters responded on at 3:23 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, to a report of a fire on the woodlines of Adam and Emma streets. Firefighters requested assistance from the Poplar Bluff Police Department due to a subject in the area known for burning scrap. They located two fires in the backyard of 808 Emma Street, one in a trash can that appeared to be burning scraps and the other a tire under a dead tree. Firefighters put out both fires using approximately 50 gallons of water. They made contact with the occupant of the house who stated she had not started the fires.
