POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. — Francis Eugene ‘Gene’ Stamps, 87 of Poplar Bluff, 87, died Monday, July 8, 2019. Visitation will be from noon - 1 p.m. Friday, July 12 in the chapel at Moore Funeral Service, 1100 Iron Bridge Road, Poplar Bluff. The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Bud Goins officiating.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. — Francis Eugene ‘Gene’ Stamps, 87 of Poplar Bluff, went home to be with Jesus at 11:48 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2019 surrounded by his wife and daughters.

Gene was born on June 18, 1932 in Poplar Bluff, the son of Walter Johnson and Daisy Belle (Dover) Stamps. He married Patricia Diane Sullivan on January 8, 1953 in Poplar Bluff. Together they shared over sixty-six years of marriage.

Gene was a member of Family Worship Center in Poplar Bluff. Gene loved to sing Gospel music with his wife, which they did together for many years. He enjoyed hunting and took many big game hunting trips throughout his life, he also enjoyed fishing and white-water rafting.

Gene cared greatly for his family and loved spending time with them. There were no gray areas with Gene, if he loved you there was no doubt and if he disliked you that was clear as well. He was quick-witted and had a sarcastic sense of humor.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Danny Stamps of Wood River, IL, Randy Stamps of Poplar Bluff, Lisa Trainor of Poplar Bluff and Sandy (Jimmy) Griffin of Poplar Bluff; one bonus son, Rob Chappell of Poplar Bluff; eleven grandchildren, Amy (Jerry) Edmundsun of Poplar Bluff, Tony (Misti) Wallace of Poplar Bluff, Brian (Sara) Hooker of Wentzville, Mo., Katrina Stamps of St. Louis, Mo., Riley Russo of St. Louis, Trisha Metcalf of Fort Collins, Colo., Derek Stamps, Matt Stamps, Warren Griffin and Brooke Griffin, all of Poplar Bluff; twenty-one great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Gene is also survived by his siblings, Fred (Lavone) Stamps of Troy, Mo., Shirley Tawfeek of Lake St. Louis, Mo., Patty Little of Poplar Bluff.

Gene was preceded in death by two daughters, Carolyn Chappell and Karen Stamps; and a grandson Sean Bright.

Visitation will be from noon - 1 p.m. Friday, July 12 in the chapel at Moore Funeral Service, 1100 Iron Bridge Road, Poplar Bluff.

The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Bud Goins officiating.

A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
