Authorities report a 15-year-old Poplar Bluff resident suffered multiple facial fractures after his bicycle allegedly was struck by a van at 3:12 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Ninth and Emma streets.
According to the report, Patricia Renee Parker, 35, of the 1000 block of Adam Street was operating a southbound 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan that was stopped at the intersection of Emma at the posted stop sign.
At the same time, William Allen Greer of the 100 block of West Lexington was operating a bicycle eastbound on Emma.
Parker allegedly failed to yield to Greer’s bicycle, which struck the front passenger door of her van.
Poplar Bluff Police Sgt. Joe Ward said there were three bicyclists, and Parker “said she saw the first pass by, looked (but) did not see him until she was already in the intersection and by then it was too late.”
Greer initially was taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Ward said the teen subsequently was transferred to St. Louis Children’s Hospital for treatment of his facial injuries.
