City firefighters responded at 8:52 p.m. Thursday, June 27, to assist emergency-medical-services in loading a patient at 608 N. Sixth Street.

City firefighters responded at 3:31 p.m. Thursday, June 27, to a report of smoke coming from the back of the residence at 519 N. Sixth St.

According to the report, firefighters found an unauthorized burn upon entering the home and used a water can and about 10 gallons of water to put out the fire.

Wire reportedly was found in the burn pile, and wire cutters were found by the road.

City firefighters responded at 8;28 a.m. Thursday, June 27, to a report lightning striking the 105 W. Victor St. residence owned by Judy Smothers.

According to the report, firefighters were told the stove was making a clicking noise, but the found the noise was coming from a faulty plug.

Firefighters flipped to breaker to the plug, but that cut the power to the entire kitchen.

Spire employees responded and checked the stove.

Firefighters also contacted the city’s building inspector to provide a list of electricians.

City firefighters responded at 5:32 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, to a report of a structure fire in the area of Fair and Marshall streets.

According to the report, firefighters found smoke and flames showing from a single-story structure at 1821 Marshall St. owned by Roy and Tammy Mellon.

Firefighters saw smoke coming from the attic area and flames showing on one side.

Firefighters used 150 gallons of water to put out the visible fire on the outside of the structure and in its interior rear.

The home reportedly was marked as condemned and had no utilities. Firefighters were told someone may have been living inside, and two people were found and removed.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

County firefighters responded at 8:22 a.m. Thursday, June 27, to a lightning strike at 388 County Road 4413.

According to the report, the lightning had struck a tree in the backyard and caused damage to an air-conditioning unit. The owner was Janise Banks.

County firefighters responded at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 27, to a report of a smoke odor at the 3663 County Road 542 residence owned by Ryan Helton.

According to the report, the vent pipe come off of a hot water heater.
