Wrecker company personnel worked all day Monday to remove a loaded concrete truck from a pond where it earlier overturned on a private-property levee off of Highway W.

At about 6 p.m. Friday, a pond levee gave away, causing a Spencer Ready Mix truck to overturn into the water, according to a company representative.

“We were going in; the truck was loaded” and weighed about 70,000 pounds, the representative said. “It’s wasn’t nobody’s fault. It was just a freaky accident.”

Although the truck “turned upside down” in the pond, its driver got out through a window, the representative said. “He got out all right; that’s the best thing right there.”

Butler County firefighters were among those who responded to the pond at 8462 Highway W.

“It took (wreckers) all day (Monday) to get it out; it took two of them,” the representative said.
