POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. — Thelma Pauline Tibbs, 95 formerly of Poplar Bluff, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2019 after a prolonged illness.

Mrs. Tibbs was born June 5, 1924 in McCoy, Ark. She was an active member of the South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church for many years. Mrs. Tibbs lived in Poplar Bluff from the age of 12 until shortly before her death when she moved to Illinois to live with her daughter. She was a member of Unite/Aim Club of Missouri, Senior Citizens Counsel serving as the Poplar Bluff Chapter President. She was on the Senior Advisory Board of the ILGWU/AFLCIO, as well as being active in other clubs. Mrs. Tibbs was an avid quilter, showing her quilts at fairs and donating her quilts to fundraisers.

On December 26, 1942 she married James Tibbs in Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy (Joe Alan) Clark and Martha (Joseph) Meyer; six grandchildren, James (Jennifer) Clark, Lynda (Steven) Luth, David Clark, Ellen Clark, Joseph (Megan) Meyer, and Cheryl (Robert) Little; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, all of Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Nona Koors, and her sister, Elizabeth Kirkley.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 22 at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff with the funeral following at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asked for donations to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
