An East Carter student received the National Champion Award on Saturday at the Junior Beta Club National Convention in Oklahoma City for her performance in the Special Talent category.
“I could not have won this award without the support of my family, friends and teachers,” said Hailey Bradford, 14, of Ellsinore. “Their love and encouragement gave me the courage to get up and perform.”
Singing an original song she composed, the young performer competed against students from across the United States.
Bradford first performed in a preliminary round; then, was notified later in the day that she had made it to the top five. After a second performance before the general session, and “waiting forever,” she was named National Champion in the Special Talent division.
“I am beyond excited,” said Bradford, “and proud to win this award for East Carter County.”
