Margaret Harwell Art Museum is accepting entries now for Pictures by the People, a show that has featured photography from people around the region for more than three decades.
“Some people are intimidated about putting their photographs in this show, but last year we had an emerging photographer. He put some very interesting viewpoints in there,” said MHAM Director Steve Whitworth. “It was really an evocative angle and pose. I just want everybody to get out there and experiment.”
The event will be judged by area photographer Mark Pelton.
In addition to a grand purchase award, winners will be announced in categories for adults, professionals and juniors.
A $5 entry fee is needed for adults and professionals, and a $2 fee for juniors.
Participants may enter up to three photos, no previous entries allowed.
Individuals must live within a 100-mile radius of Poplar Bluff.
Cash prizes will be available for the categories of: grand prize, selfie, special technique, black and white, and cutest pet, as well as first through third and honorable mention for adult and junior divisions.
The deadline for entries is July 1.
A reception will be held from 1-4 p.m. July 7. Awards will be presented at that time.
Minimum size of entries is 8 by 10 inches, with a maximum size of 16 by 20 inches. A maximum mat size is 20 by 24 inches.
Prints may be framed, but must have wire or hanger attached to back of frame.
