Time after time we have felt the negative impact of activist judges across the country stepping in to implement their political agenda instead of upholding the constitution and rule of law.
While always disappointing, it is not shocking necessarily when we see this happen out in California. However, recently in Missouri we had our own case of judicial activism erupt when a St. Louis judge stepped in to place a halt on the state ending the license of the last abortion provider in our state.
I was proud to be a co-sponsor of the strongest pro-life bill in the entire country passed this legislation session in Jefferson City. Pro-Life legislators, like myself, from all across the state took a strong stand in defense of innocent life. The Missouri Department of Health had serious concerns about the practices occurring in the St. Louis Planned Parenthood and their failure to meet even basic health and safety standards. Their abortion license was set to expire, until one judge decided he had the authority all by himself to allow them to continue to provide abortions until he could hold more hearings on the issue.
Let me be clear—a judge’s job is to enforce the law as written, not rewrite it themselves.
This is a blatant abuse of power to enforce a liberal agenda and it is something we cannot stand for. I will continue to fight alongside the pro-life leaders in our state until we can finally put an end to the heinous practice of abortion in Missouri.
