DONIPHAN, Mo. — Jean Frey Simpson was born August 8, 1927 at Calm, near Gatewood, Mo., the daughter of the late W.L. and Ida Frey. She grew up in the Calm community where her parents owned and operated a general merchandise store.
She was of the Methodist Faith. Jean graduated from Couch High School, Myrtle, Mo. in 1945. She was a graduate of Southwest State University in Springfield, Mo. She taught her first school at Pine, Mo. at the age of 19.
Her 33 year teaching career took her to Pine, Fairdealing, Koshkonong, and Couch Elementary in Missouri. Then to Des Moines, Iowa, Chicago, , Kansas City, Mo. and the last 16 years of teaching in Ferguson-Florissant School District in St. Louis County, Mo.
She continued to make her home in Florissant until May 2007 when she moved to West St. Louis County.
She was married to Harold Simpson of Kansas City in 1967.
Her brother Glen F. Frey of Keokuk, Iowa and her sister, Mary Lee Driskill of Doniphan preceded her in death. Her niece, Kathy Abbott of Northfield, Minn. and nephews Glen Kent Frey of West Plaines, Mo. and Joe Driskill of Jefferson City and their families survive. Also cousins, Bob Netherland and Kay Hartsock of Doniphan area, Sue Hertzog of Ash Flat, Ark. and Betty Jo Arabie of Kingsport, Tenn.
