According to the report, dust was mistaken for smoke.

According to the report, firefighters used a multigas meter to check the apartment and no gas was detected.

City firefighters responded at 12:27 p.m. Friday, May 17, to a report of a smell of wires burning at the 2020 Snider Road residence occupied by Janet Guffey.
According to the report, a ceiling fan was not working properly and was found to be warmer than normal.
Firefighters turned off the switch and checked the breaker. After then fan was off, it began to cool down.
Guffey was told to contact an electrician and have the fan replaced.
