DEXTER — Ozark Federal Credit Union broke ground Monday on a new, permanent location to serve the residents of Dexter.

The 2,880-square-foot building at 1117 W. Business 60 is expected to be complete in the fall. It is a $1 million project, according to city permits.

The credit union had a great turnout for the groundbreaking, said Davine Conover, business development specialist.

“Dexter always gives words of encouragement, sound advice and a welcoming hand at every turn we have made in their community,” she said, adding, “Though we have had a presence in Dexter for the past five years, the permanent residence shows our continued commitment to the community.”

Dillie & Traxel Architects have designed a building similar to the credit union’s Piedmont location, Conover said. Brockmiller Construction of Farmington won the bid to complete the work.

“We look forward to the completion of the building this fall with a ribbon cutting, and allowing the community to tour the new facility,” Conover said.

Started in 1952, the credit union now serves six counties under a full community charter.

The credit union is a financial cooperative with members whose deposits create the pool of money used for loans. Today, it can serve anyone who lives, works or worships in Butler, Carter, Ripley, Wayne, Dunklin and Stoddard counties.

OFCU is the only federally chartered credit union in Missouri to have more than three counties included in its service area.

It has over 10,000 members, according to the credit union.

The credit union currently operates at 1006 W. Business 60 in Dexter. It also has three locations in Poplar Bluff, one in Piedmont and one in Doniphan.
