Two women suffered what authorities say were non-life threatening injuries after they were shot Tuesday night outside a Plum Street home.

Just after 8 p.m., officers with the Poplar Bluff Police Department responded to the 300 block of Plum Street in regard to a shooting, said Police Capt. J.R. Keirsey.

“Upon arrival, aid was rendered to both women, who were later transported to the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center for treatment,” said Keirsey.

The women, ages 37 and 50, subsequently were flown to an unknown hospital(s) for further treatment.

“According to witnesses, there several people sitting outside the residence when a subject known as ‘T’ approached on foot,” Keirsey explained. “‘T’ began randomly shooting into the group, striking the two females.”

“T,” who later was identified as Chantwan Watkins, fled the area on foot after the alleged shooting, Keirsey said.

The investigation, Keirsey said, led officers to an address on Magpie Lane, where the 25-year-old was arrested on suspicion of two counts of first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

Watkins was booked at the Butler County jail awaiting the filing of formal charges.
