Thornburghs to celebrate 50 years together

Bob and Virginia (Roberts) Thornburgh of Poplar Bluff will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on May 3. The couple was united in marriage May 3, 1969 at Second Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Thornburgh worked for the Poplar Bluff Water Department 40 years prior to his retirement in 2008. He has been a member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff for over 30 years loving his many years singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school. Mr. Thornburgh enjoys camping and spending time with his family.

Mrs. Thornburgh was a piano teacher in the Poplar Bluff area for over 34 years prior to her retirement in 2005. She enjoyed playing organ at First Baptist and the VA Hospital in Poplar Bluff along with teaching Sunday school at First Baptist. Mrs. Thornburgh loves spending time with her grandchildren.

The Thornburghs have one daughter, Debbie Winters of Poplar Bluff, who follows in her mother’s footsteps by giving piano lessons to area students. Their son-in-law, Stephen Winters, is the band director at both the Poplar Bluff Junior High School and the Poplar Bluff High School. The Thornburghs have two granddaughters, Hannah and Bethany Winters.

The couple invites all family and friends to a drop-in celebration from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, May 5 at First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. No gifts please. Cards are welcomed and appreciated.
