County firefighters responded at 11:17 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, to an electrical fire at 51 Mountain View Lane.

According to the report, the breaker box overheated, and firefighters shut the power off to the house. The owner was Penny Billington.

County firefighters responded at 5:36 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, to a woods fire on County Road 510.

According to the report, about three acres burned.

City firefighters responded at 1:03 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, to a report of a structure fire at the 968 Lester St. residence owned by Dennis and Arleen Herber.

According to the report, upon their arrival, firefighters found light smoke coming from the attic vent on one side of the home.

Firefighters made entry and went to the second floor, where they found no visible smoke.

Firefighters reportedly found a small area in the ceiling where the fire was starting to burn through. Firefighters turned off the home’s main breaker and started pulling the ceiling.

It reportedly appeared some electrical wiring had overheated and caught the ceiling frame and insulation on fire.

Firefighters used five gallons of water to put out the fire and used a salvage tarp to catch sheet rock and insulation.

A positive-pressure-ventilation fan was set up to clear the smoke from the attic.

The Herbers reportedly contacted the American Red Cross and were taken care of for the night.

City firefighters responded at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, to a fire behind the 1310 Gardner St. residence occupied by Paul Ordway.

According to the report, firefighters found an unauthorized burn and used 50 gallons of water to put it out.

Ordway was told about the city’s burn ordinances.

City firefighters responded at 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, to a motor-vehicle crash at the intersection of Pershing Street and Highland Drive. It was investigation only.

City firefighters responded at 5:53 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, to a report of a gas odor in the 1600 block of Big Bend Road. It was investigation only.

According to the report, firefighters used a multigas meter to check the area, but nothing was found.

Firefighters also checked with some residents, who reported smelling what they thought was a fire.
