POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. — Vera L. ‘Minnie’ Golden, 94, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2019.
Mrs. Golden, daughter of the late Joseph E. and Magnolia Henry Monteil, was born April 15, 1924 in Kansas City, Mo. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the St. Ann’s Society, active in the Church Bazaar, and served on various church committees. Mrs. Golden sang in the church choir for over 20 years. She was also active in a Catholic Radio Program for 14 years. During her earlier years she was a seamstress at the Gossard Garment Factory. She was an awesome seamstress and described by her family as strong and hard working in all she did but always with a beautiful smile on her face. Mrs. Golden was a devoted wife and mother and over the years had created a friendly home full of faith and love. She was blessed with a large family and loved cooking and spending time with them.
She was married to the love of her life George Golden, who preceded her in death in 1987.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Golden Benner and her husband, Richard Benner of Connecticut and Mona Golden of Poplar Bluff; three grandchildren, Tim Benner and his wife, Suzanne, John Benner and Carolyn Kelley and her husband, Patrick; two great-grandchildren, Sam Benner and Megan Benner; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Golden was preceded in death by her sister, Irene Graham, and six brothers, Joseph, Albert, Fred, Johnny, James and Charlie.
Visitation will be from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, March 29 at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 30 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Michael McDevitt serving as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
