City firefighters responded at 10:27 a.m. Sunday, March 24, to a report of smoke in the 624 Kinzer St. building owned by Ray Robertson.
According to the report, Desmond Fletcher told firefighters his apartment had a smoke smell.
Upon entering the building, firefighters reportedly noticed a smoke smell in the main hallway.
Firefighters used the department’s thermal-imagining camera and found a light with an overheated ballast in the main hallway outside Fletcher’s apartment.
Firefighters shut off power to the bad light fixture.
Robertson was contacted, and he was to contact maintenance personnel to repair the light.

City firefighters responded at 1:38 a.m. Sunday, March 24, to a motor-vehicle crash at the intersection of Barron Road and Channon Drive.
According to the report, extrication was not needed. A firefighter drove the ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, while other firefighters remained on the scene until the vehicle was removed.

City firefighters responded at 10:13 p.m. Saturday, March 23, to a motor-vehicle crash on Oak Grove Road.
According to the report, firefighters checked the vehicle for fluid leaks and cut the power to its battery.
A fire truck also was used for traffic control.

City firefighters responded at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, March 23, to a report of smoke coming from an electrical outlet at the 305 S. Eighth St. residence owned and occupied by Retha Thornton.
According to the report, firefighters found light smoke in the structure and smoke coming from an electrical outlet in a bedroom.
A positive-pressure ventilation fan was set up, and firefighters opened the wall cavity around the outlet.
Once the wall was opened, firefighters reportedly found fire, which quickly extended to the exterior.
Firefighters used 10 gallons of water to put out the fire.
The department’s thermal-imaging camera was used to check for fire extension. None was found.
Municipal Utilities was notified due to the damage to the home’s electrical system. The power reportedly was shut off the home.
