POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. —Dennis Overbey, 64, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away on March 14, 2019 in Poplar Bluff.
Dennis was born on May 31, 1954 to Leonard and Meta Dean Crow in Sikeston, Mo. He married Rosemary Alsup on June 4, 1978 (a date that he only remembered once) in Sikeston.
Dennis was a 1972 graduate of Sikeston High School. Dennis was employed by Ferrell Excavations before joining the Missouri State Highway Patrol where, he retired after serving 34 years as a patrol officer, polygraphist and a criminal investigator. After retirement, Dennis also worked for Shady Grove State School in Poplar Bluff as a Lead Driver/ Bus Driver for special needs kids.
Dennis was of the Baptist Faith.
Dennis will always be remembered by his hard work ethic, his uncanny sense of humor, his love to joke and laugh, and a smile you knew he was either up to something or was thinking something you didn’t want to know.
Dennis is survived by his spouse of 40 years Rosemary Overbey; one son, DJ Overbey; one daughter, Shannon (Patrick) Kaelin; brother, Dan (Gayle) Overbey; sister, Ramona (Jack) White; two brothers-in-law, Skip (Jolene) Alsup, Steve (Nancy) Alsup; and sister-in-law, Suzanne Alsup; five grandchildren, Cooper and Claire Overbey, Luke, Levi and Shiloh Kaelin and last, but no least, his 60-inch John Deere Mower, which he treasured.
Dennis was preceded by his parents, his in-laws, Castor and Mary Alsup; and his Great Dane, Java D. Rose.
The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date by lucky invitation only.
