POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. — Allie Mae Ann Gilliland Dannecker, age 81, died March 12, 2019 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, Poplar Bluff, Mo. from complications with cancer. She has been a resident of Poplar Bluff for the past 25 years.

Ms. Dannecker was born on 24 July, 1937 in Piper City, Ford County, Ill. She lived many of her younger adult years in San Francisco, Calif. and was a head secretary for Formost Dairy.

While residing in Oregon she joined the Unity Church. After moving to Poplar Bluff to care for her ailing mother, she became a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and worked as a bookkeeper for Huffman’s Construction.

Her hobbies included being a continual learner and lover of good books, magazines and her cats. For most of her adult life she affectionately served as a family communications hub for her siblings, nieces and nephews. Quilt-making was a favorite pastime in her later years. She made at least one quilt for each niece and nephew as well as donating quilts to Habitat for Humanity to auction off at fundraisers. The opportunity for a trip was never missed. She loved to travel and to drive. So much so that she would oft times be the main driver on long trips across country — even at 80+ years old. Serving others was always a priority. She loved helping family members and friends. Her reward was seeing others happy and knowing that what she had contributed made a difference for good in someone else’s life. She has helped many.

Her deceased father and mother are William James Gilliland and Allie Pearl Gray.

She has four surviving siblings, Beatrice I. Tompkins, Lloyd E. Gilliland, Hazel J. Watson and Johnny D. Gilliland.

She was preceded in death by five siblings, Louis P. Gilliland, Jesse Robert Gilliland, Margaret G. Richmond, William C. Gilliland and Henry T. Gilliland.

Ms. Dannecker proudly had 12 nieces and 16 nephews. She loved them all!

She will be cremated and a memorial in her honor will be held at a later date.
