City firefighters responded at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, to a report of an unauthorized burn in the 900 block of Apple Street. It was investigation only.

According to the report, firefighters found James Michael burning yard waste in a metal container at his 923 Apple St. residence.

City firefighters responded at 3:19 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, to an alarm at the Mark Twain Care Center, 3001 May St. It was investigation only.

City firefighters responded at 9:11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, to an alarm at the Poplar Bluff Regional Center, 2513 Sunset Terrace. It was investigation only.

City firefighters responded at 6:16 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, to a report of smoke coming from an electrical outlet at the 414 S. D St. residence occupied by Kimberly Hood and owned by Harold Johnson.

According to the report, firefighters found a wall outlet that was melted, with smoke coming from behind the outlet box.

Firefighters reportedly shut down the breaker box that supplied power to that outlet.

Firefighters told Hood and Johnson to leave the power off to the breaker until an electrician could look at the damage.

Firefighters installed a new smoke alarm in the residence. The city’s building inspector also was notified at about situation.

City firefighters responded at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, to a report of someone burning a chair in the area of 13th and Tremont streets.

According to the report, firefighters found an unattended fire burning near the garage at the 1304 Gardner St. residence owned and occupied by Joyce Mitchell.

Firefighters reported Mitchell told them an old chair was being burned. Firefighters told Mitchell about the city’s burn ordinance and used 30 gallons of water to put out the fire.
