City firefighters responded at 12:12 a.m. Monday, March 3, to a report of smoke in the 1110 W. Maud St. residence occupied by Gaye Morgan and owned by Galen Hillis.

According to the report, firefighters were told en route the fire was in the kitchen ceiling.

Upon their arrival, firefighters found the fire was in the attic and shut down the breakers.

Firefighters pulled part of the kitchen ceiling, and firefighters entered the attic to find the main seat of fire.

Firefighters used 25 gallons of water to put out the fire and a bucket to remove all the smoldering insulation.

Municipal Utilities employees responded and pulled the electrical meter to the home.

Morgan was told she was unable to stay in the home until repairs could be made. The America Red Cross was contacted and arrangements were made for Morgan to stay the night at a hotel.
