POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. — Gale ‘Bubba’ Belew, 72, of Poplar Bluff, passed away on January 30, 2019 on the farm doing what he loved.

Gale was born on October 3, 1946 to James and Pauline Belew in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Gale worked at Rowe Furniture for 15 years before taking over the family farm. On November 6, 1964 he married Sue Blue, his high school sweetheart.

Gale was a talented baseball player during his high school and college years. Gale was a pitcher and many batters will remember his ability to move them off the plate. Gale had a passion for wildlife and hunting throughout his life. Some of Gale’s best memories were hunting trips to Colorado and Alaska with his hunting buddies. Gale has passed his love of hunting and outdoors to his grandchildren. Deer season was a Belew family holiday with Pop known to the grandchildren as the Godfather of deer camp. Gale was very passionate and supported youth involvement in hunting. Gale made and met many friends over the years as he owned and operated Rocky Top Gun Shop and Rocky Top Corner. Gale was a lifetime member of the NRA he was also an avid supporter of multiple wildlife conservation organizations. Gale served as a 32nd degree Mason.

Gale is survived by three daughters; Heather (George) Easterday, Shannon Scott, Jami Belew, five grandsons; Kody Scott, Wyatt Easterday, Tucker Ham, Hunter Ham, Slater Ham and “The ONE and only” granddaughter; Kelci Scott, one very dear cousin; Darcy (Gary) Kennedy, two sisters-in-law; Dianne (Bob) Phillips, Linda (Dennis) O’Donnell and a very special extended family the Gilleans.

Gale was preceded in death by his spouse of 45 years, Sue Belew, parents; mother; Pauline Belew, father; James “Blue” Belew, son-in-law; Steve Scott and in-laws; Harry and Lois Blue.

Visitation will be held at Moore Funeral Service Chapel on Sunday February 3, 2019 from noon to 2 p.m.

Funeral services will be immediately following at 2 p.m. in the Moore Funeral Service Chapel with his nephew Jeff Phillips officiating. Internment will be at Ash Hill Cemetery.
