A Malden art teacher has won Best of Show in the 65th Annual Poplar Bluff Artists' Guild Regional Juried Art Exhibit.

Yevgeny Sokolov's watercolor, "Tired," was selected from nearly 80 entries, said Steve Whitworth, director of the Margaret Harwell Art Museum, which hosts the event. Yevgeny is a past exhibitor of the museum, Whitworth said. Originally from Russia, Yevgeny also played basketball for Three Rivers College.

Entries can be seen at the museum starting at 1 p.m. Saturday and will be on display through December. An opening reception will be held from 1-4 p.m. Sunday. An awards presentation, including a People's Choice Award, will be held at 3:45 p.m. Sunday.

"The guild was very pleased with the quality and variety of the work submitted," said Whitworth, who said entries had increased this year.

The Friends Gift Shop will be open during the reception, Whitworth said. It includes the recent addition of hand-painted Christmas ornaments by Kathy Dickson.

The Best of Show award is sponsored by Commerce Bank. Support for this show also comes from the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
