Chester L. Stroud, 86, a well-known general contractor of Poplar Bluff, Mo., entered his Eternal Home Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center.
Chester, the son of the late Delbert and Lucy Roe Stroud, was born June 7, 1932 in Broseley, Mo. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Chester was widely known for his meticulous and superior construction and remodeling of many beautiful homes and businesses in Poplar Bluff and the surrounding areas, most notable, Cotrell Funeral Service in Poplar Bluff as well as Cotrell Funeral Chapel at Wappapello. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed bird watching, building bird houses and working in his yard. Chester's most cherished moments were spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Chester married the love of his life Betty Jo Riepe on June 4, 1955 in Holly Springs, Miss. She preceded him in death on April 17, 2017.
Survivors include two children Lennis L. (Laura) Stroud of Puxico and Debbie K. (Tony) Arnold of Poplar Bluff; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister Vida Schalk of Poplar Bluff.
Chester also was preceded in death by a daughter Daronda J. Neal.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with the funeral service following at 11:30 a.m. His grandson, the Rev. Dusty Stroud will officiate and his pastor, the Rev. T. J. Woodard will assist. .A final farewell drive by salute by staff members of John J. Pershing VA Medical Center will immediately follow. A graveside committal service with full military honors will be at Brown Chapel Cemetery in Broseley.
