Dexter senior Chaylea Mosby became the school's all-time leading scorer Saturday, but the fifth-ranked Bearcats lost 45-42 to defending Class 5 state champion Kirkwood.
Already the school's record-holder for most career points in girls basketball, Mosby scored 19 against Kirkwood, bringing her career total to 1,813. That total surpassed boys all-time leading scorer Brett Hale who has 1,812. She scored 18 in the Bearcats' season-opening 63-46 win over St. Joseph's Academy on Friday.
A day after making 12 3-pointers, the Bearcats amassed eight against Kirkwood in the St. Joseph's Academy Turkey Shootout at Frontenac.
Mosby made five of those 3-pointers and was the only Bearcat to score in double figures. Keirstan Keirsey and Maycie Martin just missed double figures with nine and eight points, respectively.
Kirkwood (2-0) led 13-11 after one quarter, the score was tied at 22 at halftime and Kirkwood took a 34-27 lead into the final quarter.
Natalie Bruns led a balanced Kirkwood attack with 11 points, and Rylee Mulvaney added 10.
Dexter 63, St. Joseph's Academy 46
The fifth-ranked Dexter Bearcats sank 12 3-pointers and rolled season-opening victory.
Natalie Sitze made a team-high four 3-pointers and finished with 15 points Friday in the St. Joseph's Academy Turkey Shootout in Frontenac. Chaylea Mosby and Maci McBride made three each, and Rylee Allen had two.
Mosby finished with a game-high 18 points with Allen and McBride scoring nine each.
The Bearcats made three 3-pointers in the first quarter to take a 16-10 lead, four in the second for a 33-26 halftime advantage and three more in the third to take a 49-38 lead into the final period.
Tiffany Sakamoto paced St. Joseph's with 12 points.
