The Poplar Bluff Kiwanis Club is asking for help to provide area foster children with a sense of comfort this Christmas.

The Kiwanis Club is hosting a pajama drive through Dec. 14. The new pajamas will be passed out to children for Christmas through FosterAdopt Connect SEMO in Poplar Bluff.

"The Poplar Bluff Kiwanis realize that there are too many kids that find themselves in foster care," member Steve Whitworth said. "We want to give them something that is nice and new to call their own, and give them some sense of comfort."

According to Kiwanis member Brock Littles, who has been the chair of the event for many years, the club has distributed pajamas to the Division of Family Services, Haven House and the Ozark Family Resource Agency in the past.

"On average we donate about 200 pairs of pajamas," he said.

While all sizes of pajamas are accepted, Littles said the pajamas for the younger children always seem to be the bulk of what is received.

"We are always looking for all sizes and ages," Littles said. "There is always a great need for the older children."

New pajamas may be dropped off by Dec. 14 at the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce, Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, Sacred Heart School and Whitworth's Gift Chest Jewelers.

If the Dec. 14 deadline is missed, pajama donations are accepted throughout the year for next year's pajama drive donation.

"Our motto is serving the children of the world and this is one thing we could do," Littles said. "This time of year it's getting cold and want to provide for the kids in need, and we have been able to do that over the years."
