Jean Hawkins, 90, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. entered Heaven's Gates Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018 at her daughter's residence. Jean Hawkins, 90, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. entered Heaven's Gates Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018 at her daughter's residence.

Mrs. Hawkins, the daughter of the late George and Bessie Kearbey Whalen, was born Jan. 30, 1928 at Ten Mile Creek in Butler County. She was a member of First General Baptist Church and had retired from Bancroft Cap Company. She also was a member of Cane Creek Women's Club for many years. Over the years she worked as a seamstress in her home making alterations. She enjoyed sewing but her passion was taking care of her family as well as anyone else that needed her.

She married Raymond W. "Dago" Hawkins on Feb. 2, 1946 in Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 2013.

Survivors include three children, Carol Jean Inman of Poplar Bluff, Gary Ray Hawkins of Dallas, Texas and Larry Wayne (Diane) Hawkins of BeeBee, Ark.; seven grandchildren, John Inman, J. Lee (Tina) Inman, Justin (Judy) Hawkins, Lisa (Dustin) Worlow, Katrina (Adrian) Verduzco, Kendra (Chase) Wallace and Jay Hawkins; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister Kay Marie Miller of Poplar Bluff.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with the funeral service following at noon. The Rev. John Crowley will officiate. Burial will be at the City Cemetery.
