JACKSON -- From the start of the MSHSAA Class 4 District 1 Semifinals, top-seeded Seckman was all over fourth-seeded Poplar Bluff. It took Seckman four innings to tally 14 runs and five innings to finish off a 14-2 win for the top seed. JACKSON -- From the start of the MSHSAA Class 4 District 1 Semifinals, top-seeded Seckman was all over fourth-seeded Poplar Bluff. It took Seckman four innings to tally 14 runs and five innings to finish off a 14-2 win for the top seed.

Meagan McCorkell connected on home runs in the first two innings, setting the tone for Seckman and earning six RBIs in the process.

Emilee Cheek, Morgan Courtney and Kaylee Cheek tallied the only three hits for Poplar Bluff as Seckman pitcher Lauren Montgomery struck out nine batters.

SOFTBALL

(3) Doniphan 10, (2) Farmington 7

Four runs in the fourth inning were the difference as Doniphan (18-4) defeated Farmington (10-10) to reach the finals in the Class 3 District 1 Tournament. Kaylee Davis connected on a pair of home runs, and Lexi Day added another. Davis sent her first over the fence in the fourth inning to give Doniphan the lead and all the momentum. Her second was for insurance in the seventh as she finished with a team-leading four RBIs.

(4) Alton 18, (5) East Prairie 9

Hannah Wigger tallied two triples and a double as Alton (7-15) won a shootout with the help of 23 hits from the team.

Wigger scored five runs to lead the Comets, and Allie Campbell added three more as Alton moved on to face top-seeded East Carter in the Class 2 District 1 Tournament semifinals. The Comets pulled away with the help of five runs in the sixth inning.

Van Buren 0, 6 inn

Norwood (16-7) created separation early with five runs in its Class 1 District 1 Tournament matchup with Van Buren (6-15) by scoring five runs in the first inning on the way to a shutout.

Brooke Jackson and Lanae Flowers recorded the only two hits for Van Buren.

CROSS COUNTRY

Jaden Deaton and Dylan Cisne earned a pair of top-10 finishes for Poplar Bluff in the SEMO Large Schools Conference Meet Thursday. Deaton finished second overall with a time of 16 minutes, 40.75 seconds. Cisne clocked a time of 17:36.59. Brent Worley placed 28th at 20:19.85, while Tristan Gillihan was 29th with a time of 20:24.46.

For the girls, Kaitlyn Moeller paced the Poplar Bluff side with a 13th-place finish at 22:04.45. Salah McCormack finished 17th with a time of 22:48.98. Paige Bradley and Faith Griggs placed 19th and 20th with respective times of 23:33.47 and 23:51.18.

Ava Smith and Julia Smothers turned in respective times of 24:22.01 and 24:37.42 for 22nd and 23rd. Kenya Jones clocked a time of 26:44.33 to round out the Poplar Bluff performances.

For Dexter, Margo Mea turned in a fourth-place performance with a time of 20:48.88 to pace the girls. Grace Milam finished 21st at 24:02.85. On the boys side, Andrew Ellinghouse placed 21st with a time of 19:11.91 to lead the team.

SWIMMING

Gavin Vaughn paced Poplar Bluff boys swimming in the 200-yard freestyle with a fourth-place time of 2 minutes, 11.49 seconds Thursday in Cape Central. Kastin Caudel placed seventh for the team in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 26.04.

Vaughn earned another fourth-place finish with the 100-yard butterfly by swimming a time of 1:07.83. Caudel and Christian Todd finished seventh and ninth for the Mules in the 100-yard freestyle with respective times of 1:01 and 1:12.9. Todd led the team in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking a time of 1:29.05, good for seventh.
