On Saturday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. all military veterans are invited to attend a special dinner in their honor at the Dexter Elks Lodge. The event will be hosted by the Elks, and it is their desire to recognize all veterans for their service.
Any proceeds will go to the Elks Veterans Committee. The Veterans Committee uses all money strictly for activities involving veterans.According to Veterans Committee chairman Shirley Alexander, they not only want to recognize veterans of foreign wars but also those who joined after high school for a few years or those who may have left school early to serve because they all defended our freedom. Tyson Foods has agreed to donate the meat for the event with the Elks preparing the sides. Various businesses in town are also backing the event. Mary Ruth Boone has volunteered to provide the entertainment and Devin Miller will provide the sound system. The National Guard is expected to be in attendance as well. A flag ceremony will take place highlighting the changes the flag has undergone over the years as well as its meaning.Other displays, artifacts and the guest speaker are still being confirmed for the dinner. The cost is $10 for adults with children 10 and under eating free. All veterans and their spouses will eat for free. You must be registered by Oct. 15 for a head count for the meal. For more information or to register, call Shirley Alexander at 573-624-2676 or the Elks Lodge at 573-624-2450.
