A unique watercolor show will visit the Margaret Harwell Art Museum in October and November, with an opening reception to be held Oct. 6.
The 2018 exhibit of the Watercolor USA Honor Society will only be seen in Poplar Bluff, explained MHAM Director Steve Whitworth. This event offers a cross section of work by watercolor artists from around the country.
"We've got 62 different perspectives of art represented," Whitworth said, adding the paintings come from 25 different states.
The watercolor society is based out of the Springfield Art Museum and holds a traveling exhibit every two years, he said. The society includes 200 members who have won awards for their work and petition to be a part of the traveling exhibit, which is held in different parts of the United States each year.
Poplar Bluff was selected following a visit from one of the members to scout locations, Whitworth said.
The scope of the current show is only possible because of a partnership with the Poplar Bluff Municipal Library, he said. A portion of the artwork will also be displayed in the lower level of the library, in addition to MHAM.
The opening reception, which will be attended by at least four of the artists, will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tickets are $30, or $25 for members of the museum or library Friends groups.
The event will begin at the museum with a meal from Costellos and proceed to the library for dessert, Whitworth said. It will include live music and beverages from Kohlfield Distributing.
The event is sponsored by Peoples Community Bank and Kohlfield, with additional funding from the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
