The community will have the opportunity to experience all the Poplar Bluff Museum has to offer this Thursday evening at Night at the Museum.

"We want to test the waters with Night at the Poplar Bluff Museum," Board Member Chris Smith said. "If it goes over well, we hope this could be monthly or quarterly."

Night at the Poplar Bluff Museum will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at museum, located at 1010 N. Main Street.

The Poplar Bluff Museum is normally only open from 2-4 p.m. Sundays, but Smith said opening to the public on a weekday evening offers another chance for families to take in the museum on a less busy day for many.

"The Polar Bluff Museum is an amazing place," he said. "I'm still in awe of the history and how well it has been kept up."

Smith added he has always had an interest in the museum since he was a child and it allows him to visualize what Poplar Bluff looked like through the years.

"We are always looking for different ways to keep the museum open and I think Chris' idea of Night at the Poplar Bluff Museum is a good idea," Museum Board Secretary Kati Ray said.

The entire Poplar Bluff Museum will be open to the public at no cost to explore the history of the city.

Some of the exhibits include Poplar Bluff Sports Hall of Fame, Abington Haworth School Room, Kanell Hall -- Veteran's Room, Hall of Heroes, Bill Hogg photo gallery, Butler County Historical Society, Police and Fire exhibits, US Forest Service/Missouri Conservation Commission, Scout Room, Postal Room, Poplar Bluff People Room, Githens Hall, Medical Room, Bowling and Golf Hall of Fame, Pioneers Room, Telephone Room and more.

Refreshments will be served during the event by Sweet Spot Bakery.

Donations are always accepted as well and go directly back into the Poplar Bluff Museum.

"I encourage as many age groups to attend," Smith said. "I truly think people will walk out with information and awe of what has been kept up. This is stuff you can't find on Google."
