The Neelyville R-IV Board of Education will continue to accept phone system bids following indications from a company that more options are available.

According to Superintendent Brad Hagood, he has been talking to several companies regarding an IP phone system. After several discussions, he was informed of another phone option.

Hagood asked for more information regarding a hybrid phone system option and depending what the company supplies him with, he asked the board to potentially go in a different direction in bid specs.

The district's current phone system is operated by Windstream Communications and is at the max number of lines that can be used. The phones are over 20 years old and have been discontinued, making the parts hard to find, Hagood added.

The board approved updated curriculum presented by Curriculum Director Heather Wells during Thursday evening's monthly meeting.

Required approval from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the K-12 math and communication arts curriculum is updated periodically throughout the year by teachers to ensure all DESE and Missouri Learning Standards are met.

Wells reported the communication arts curriculum had more adjustments made due to a new program purchased by the district last year.

Hagood reported despite skepticism due to lack of participation, Tiger Fest will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20.

"We feel like we have enough participation to move forward with it," he said.

The district's booster club was also able to secure donations from area businesses to allow a new video board be hung in the high school gym at no cost to the district.

The video board was installed and is operational in time for this evening's maroon and white game with help from the Bank of Grandin and Ellis Battery.

The high school Future Business Leaders of America will be in charge of running the video board, Hagood said.

The video board company also offers $1,000 per year, which will go to FBLA for being in charge of the equipment.

"The school district and booster club would like to thank the business sponsors for their support and donations," Hagood said.

During executive session, the board voted to hire Dee Burton as assistant high school softball coach.

The next Neelyville Board of Education meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18 at the Central Office board room.
